Description

Inside _shift is a special bonus series recorded at Space Group’s annual _shift conference. It’s an event that brings together industry leaders and “empowered agents of change” to talk about how we can decarbonise the built environment and push the industry forward. This year, I was lucky enough to chat with some of the speakers and panellists, getting to hear their ideas, stories, and insights first hand.

Today, I am joined by Catherine Sinclair. Catherine is an architect and former KTP associate who has been working with Northumbria University and SPACE Architects. Her research focuses on reducing whole-life and embodied carbon from the earliest stages of design, and she’s recently stepped into her new role as Head of Research at SPACE Architects. A real beacon for sustainability within the practice - and recently named one of the RIBA’s Rising Stars - I’m really excited to have her on the podcast again.

In this episode, Catherine talks what her experience has been like throughout the project and shares how her research is shaping her new role and also talks about her launch of D-CARB, an embodied-carbon design tool she has developed as part of the KTP which is an open-access, easy to use early stage design tool, integrated into Revit that helps review the Whole Life Carbon impact of buildings from the earliest design stage.

I hope you enjoy this episode!
